Delgany Architects Win Major International Award

ust to prove once again that we’re a stylish bunch around here, a small Delgany architectural practice has picked up The Alan King Award 2016.

The winning design, Streamline House, is an Art Deco-inspired detached house which had already been picking up a lot of national press adulation.

It’s also hidden away in sunny Greystones. Somewhere.

Brian Davies MCIAT and Mark Davies MCIAT run their Arc Design with a small crew of 5-to-7 people, and were up against some major operators at the awards ceremony in Southampton over the past weekend.

Said Mark, “We are delighted to have won the main award, and we were commended in a second award too. We are over the moon!”

The award was previously won by Patrick Bradley Architects in 2015 – his Grillagh Water House made out of shipping containers featuring on Channel 4’s Grand Designs – and the Arc Design win, reckons Evans, will “put Delgany on the map in regards to good planning and design”. Marc also feels credit is the Wicklow County Council planning department.

Certainly, the national press attention will help, with the Sunday Times dedicated a full page to the Streamline House, and House & Home magazine featuring it on their cover.

We reckon the Casey’s fine new family home will make a nice contrast for the 1950s Frank Lloyd Wright design hidden away on New Road. A house we really must go and investigate…
