It’s one thing to lose when you enter a neighbouring regatta, but, to lose again – and then again – on your home surf…
Well, that’s just plain wrong.
For the boys and girls of Greystones Rowing Club, this weekend’s annual hometown shindig has got a little bit more pressure than most years, given the recent run of bad form when it comes to that winners list.
Not only do Greystones need to restart their old winning streak, but there’s also the unspoken desire to grab a title for Pheilam Byrne, one of their crew who tragically passed away last month.
As luck would have it, the Greystones Rowing Club have a whole new generation on board this year, and there’s a very strong sense that, finally, they’re going to pull it together.
So, if you’re around this Saturday, make your way down to the harbour, and cheer the gang on. Loudly.
In the meantime, we caught up with Paddy Byrne this evening, to talk tactics, terrible results and turning the tide…
