Donnelly Takes Potshot At Fellow Greystones Politician?

xactly who Stephen Donnelly is referring to in a Sunday paper interview about credit-stealing, we really can’t say, but, hey, we are intrigued.

Talking to Michael Brennan in The Sunday Business Post as he tries to win back hearts and minds following the Fianna Fáil jump, the Greystones TD speaks of his frustration of having his work in saving Carraig Eden from private developers stolen by another local politician.

It was certainly noted at the time that Donnelly and Simon Harris TD, along with the Minister For Housing, Eoghan Murphy, and officials in Wicklow County Council, had fought hard and won the battle to keep Carraig Eden as a halfway house for those in recovery.

It was also around this time though that Donnelly got in first about Cairn Homes commitment to a youth centre as part of their new housing development up in Charlesland, his high-fiving viewed as a slap in the face by a committee in the area who had been campaigning, successfully, for just such a facility for well over a year.

Still, looking back through press releases, we’re not quite sure who Donnelly has a beef with on the Carraig Eden front. Suffice to say, it’s a growing problem, politicians pretty much trained to put their arms around any good news story they can find, whether they were actually involved in the process or not.

Once you’re first up on social media with the pic and the hurrah, hey, you’ve got your flag on that day’s feelgood viral hit. Great that good work is being done in these cynical times, but, still, credit where credit’s due…

We get a lot of press releases on the same subject here at GG HQ, and it can get pretty darn difficult to separate the spit from the spin at times, the rose from the pricks.
