Whitshed-Vincent’s junction MON20MAR23
iven that the population boom around here has meant an increase in traffic
of, oh, about 1,254% – give or take – it’s hardly surprising that drivers are always looking for shortcuts.
Shortcuts like scuttling up Vincent’s Road in the Burnaby rather than face the slow-moving conga line around by the South Beach.
That would appear to have been the case this morning when, at 8.15am, a car heading up Vincent’s from the Mill Road end didn’t actually stop at the stop sign. And thus ended up in a nasty collision with a car heading down Whitshed Road.
The latter has right of way, so it’s understandable that the driver wouldn’t expect to see another car drive directly into their path.
Which would explain why this morning’s driver down Whitshed Road ended up with their brand new car becoming what would appear to be a write-off.
Clearly, something needs to be done here, given
that this is not the first accident at this particular junction. And local residents have lost count of the near-misses.
Over the years, they have contacted the local council about the need for new safety measures at this black spot. Such as good, old-fashioned speed bumps. Given that everyone taking a shortcut is always in a hurry.
