Wicklow Fine Gael TD, Minister Simon Harris has urged more people in Wicklow to avail of the Senior Alert Scheme.
The Senior Alert Scheme provides funding for a free personal monitored alarm for people aged 65 and over and of limited means.
Speaking today Minister Harris said: “The Senior Alert Scheme is a fantastic initiative that aims to help older people live safer and more independently in their homes.
“I’m glad that so over 2,500 have already availed of it in Wicklow since the start of the scheme, including over 300 in this year alone.
“However more people are eligible for this scheme which provides financial help towards a personal alarm which can be worn as a pendant or around your wrist like a watch.
“From speaking to people in Wicklow who have already availed of it I can see the direct benefit and peace of mind it bring to families across the county and I hope more people apply for the scheme.”
To be eligible for the Seniors Alert Scheme, you must be aged 65 or over and have limited means or resources.
You must also be any of the following:
⦿ Living alone
⦿ Living alone for significant periods of time during the day
⦿ Living with someone who meets the criteria
⦿ Caring for someone else in your household
You must live in the area covered by the registered group administering the funding and be able to benefit from the equipment being supplied.
You also need to be willing to keep contact with the registered group.
Minister Harris concluded: “This scheme is about making sure older people feel safe and secure at all time while also providing their families with that extra layer of reassurance.
