Everyone’s A Sheena, Baby!

he bould Sheena Brennan has been in touch about her family’s incredible gesture as she battles through a year of chemotherapy.

Having been diagnosed with cancer at the end of last year, recognising the difficult fight ahead, her brothers, sisters, son, niece, cousin and sister-in-law all signed up for this month’s Dublin City Marathon.

Just so Sheena wouldn’t be the only one suffering all year.

The marathon is happening on Sunday, October 28th, and there’s a donation page set up right here. In the meantime, here’s the lowdown from the lady herself…

At the end of 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer, and faced a year of treatment including multiple surgery’s and chemotherapy sessions.

At Christmas, as I was recovering from my first surgery and being infused with my first dose of chemotherapy, my family decided that I should not go through this grueling year alone and without support. And so they decided that they too would put themselves through a grueling year, by training for their first ever Dublin City Marathon. 

They have invested hours of time and energy in training and preparation for October 28th. They decided to call themselves Team Sheenz, as no body can fight cancer alone, and they were my support crew! I am also getting a lot of help from Greystones Cancer Support, and we really admire the work of The Gavin Glynn Foundation, so we very quickly decided that they were the charities we were fundraising for.

The Team consists mainly of my family members:

Mark Brennan – my son and first time marathon runner
Anne Hoey – my sister and first time marathon runner
Deirdre Costello – my sister and first time marathon runner
Michael Costello – my brother who has competed before
Colm Costello – my brother who has competed before
Biddy O’Grady – my sister in law and first time marathon runner
Isobel O’Grady – my niece and first time marathon runner
Diane O’Brien – my cousin and first time marathon runner
