t’s a garden that pretty much everyone in Greystones is familiar with, given that it’s situated in one of the most sought-after and sweetest spots in the town.

Tucked away just before and almost under the railway bridge that leads you to the harbour, the Hackett home is a certifiable landmark for Greystonians.

Of course, the amount of parties that this house has been host to over the decades means that quite a few of us are familiar with the interior too, but today, it’s all about that garden.

Having moved in 46 years ago, and, Mary reckons, just about settled now, the garden may have changed over the years, but it’s always full of life, full of colour.

And, during those heady years when the children of the house hit their teens and beyond, the odd empty bottle from last night too. So, a perfect candidate for our Flower Power column.

Following on from our recent visits with Noreen Talbot and Eilo Vickers, naturally, we just had to ask Mary, how did her beautiful garden grow…
