Follow That Starfish!

Ah, the sun is out, the sky is blue, Elvis is in his sky, and Joe Redmond is sitting on his bench – yep, it’s a good day down at Greystones’ South Beach.

And now that we’re claiming more and more land from the Irish Sea, it’s amazing what you will find down there these days.

Akin to looking up at the sky on a clear night, scanning the seafront today, you’ll see a plethora of starfish, all washed up on the shore.

Maybe they’re making their way, like those cocky crows, to the young girl on the rock who’s generously sharing her lunch today. Or maybe there’s some simple science behind all this starfish sunbathing. Whatever the reason, it’s a strange and strangely compelling sight…

If anyone out there knows why these star-shaped echinoderms are opting for dry land over the seabed, let us know…
