Going Round The Bend

The Charlesland roundabout…

he driver may have been able to walk way with only minor injuries, but Monday’s Charlesland accident was incredibly close to being tragic.

Approaching the main roundabout from the N11, right by the Charlesland shopping centre, a driver lost control halfway round and mounted the kerb.

Flattening a chunk of the protective railing in the process, the car ended its journey parked up on the grass verge, parallel to the main road to the town.

Luckily, no one else was involved in the accident, but, a few seconds earlier or later, and it could have been a very different story.

For Tina Roche, who was about to enter the roundabout from the main Charlesland estate, this near-fatal accident was merely another example of the often reckless driving that this particular stretch of road seems to inspire.

Following on from December’s two-car collision and the fatal motorbike accident in May of last year, there would seem to be a need for some kind of traffic calming in Charlesland for those still keeping their pedals to the metal after leaving the N11…
