Step this way…
hen it comes to the unfurling of their flags every April, The
Greystones Bowling Club always seem to get the weather.
It’s a custom that’s getting pretty close to the town’s Groundhog Day at this point, and it’s hopefully a sign of a fine, fine summer ahead.
“It’s always a wonderful feeling, seeing that sun as we get ready for another season of bowling,” says honorary secretary Margaret Williams. “There’s nothing quite like being out on the rink for the afternoon when the weather’s fine…”
And you only had to look around this little gem in Burnaby Park today to see how true that is.
Of course, it helps when there’s a free nosh-up, and someone’s handing out free Easter eggs too.

Cullen Cup winners 2024
Men’s Captain Sean O’Brien and Ladies’ Captain Sally Ryan did the honours, whilst the club celebrated the fact that they won Saturday Division 2 last year and are now playing in Division 1. Which means the members will be playing some of the best players in Leinster, and congrats to managers Elizabeth Eager and Hannah McInerney on the club’s move up the ladder.
With this year’s open weekend on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday 4th, 11am to 1pm, you can find out more about The Greystones Bowling Club here, and jump back through the years here.
And you can also check out John McGowan’s full gallery of hi-res pics from today right about here.
