ollowing concerns about drainage, signage and pretty much everything at the Greystones Dog Park, the original campaign committee have issued the following press release…

The Campaign for Greystones Dog Park committee is deeply concerned at the current state of Greystones Dog Park, Chairperson Bernadette Stokes said: “We greatly appreciate having a large site; now we need to ensure that it is right.”

They’ve come for their paws

The committee acknowledges that drainage work is to be completed, which is desperately needed. The Campaign for Greystones Dog Park has written to the developers to express specific concerns. First and foremost, the current layout is likely to cause injuries.

Noted troublemaker Bernadette stated: “The field needs to be flat, and clear of small rocks to prevent expensive and painful injuries. The last thing we want to see are claims for negligence, and then the park is forced to shut.” The gradient concerns were highlighted repeatedly to the architect during the development stage. However, these warnings do not appear to have been heeded.

The Campaign for Greystones Dog Park believes that the dog parks in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council are a perfect template. Essentially a large enclosed field with flat regular grass. To do this double gates will need to be added to ensure that regular grass can be cut. Furthermore, it was always believed there would be a separate small dog section that would be a third of the site. The current small dog section is microscopic.

The Campaign for Greystones Dog Park also believes that the signage is incomplete. Currently there is no mention of banned breeds or children being allowed in the park. Decisive changes are now needed to ensure a safe and fit for purpose facility.

Bernadette Stokes concluded: “We want to work with the developers. We have a golden opportunity to ensure that this facility is an amazing place for many years to come.”
