Detective Garda Brian Shiels objected to a bail application made by the defendant’s lawyers on the grounds that he believed Wood was a serious flight risk.
Wood nonetheless did return to Ireland, something Gardaí only became aware of in April this year when he was arrested in Gorey over some mental health concerns.
Det Garda Shiels also expressed serious concerns about the possiblity of the defendant reoffending if he was granted bail, pointing out that two of the victims were just 11 and 16 years old and walking to school and that the incidents took place in secluded areas.
