With a major league title having eluded the boys for 10 years, there’s also the little matter of our being out of the Division 2A table for the last five years…

So, there was a lot riding on this afternoon’s Ulster Bank League final against Limerick’s Old Crescent R.F.C.

With promotion this tantalisingly close, everyone, from Captain Bobby Clancy to Peter McParland on video duties, felt the pressure today.

It was a pressure that the team used to their advantage, that hunger being blatantly obvious from the outset as Greystones hit the ground running and gunning. And then just got stronger, faster, harder, better…

If there was a slight wobble in the second half, it didn’t frighten anyone, as the boys maintained their comfortable lead right until the final whistle.

Having bumped into player Kevin Moes earlier in the afternoon, we arranged to chat after the match. A little confusion had 1st team head coach Kevin Lewis sent out to us for a quick chat before we headed into the dressing room to catch up with young Mr. Moes and the rest of the team in full celebration mode…
