t may have taken a little longer than expected, but today, finally, Greystones’ 1916 Garden was officially opened.
With members of the town’s Gardaí, Fire Service, Civil Defence and the Irish Coast Guard in attendance, the task fell to Cathaoirleach Grainne McLoughlin and Ms Lalli de Buitléar to do the honours.

Among the everyday townsfolk were such fine public servants as Cllr Nicola Lawless, Cllr Tom Fortune, Cllr Derek Mitchell and Cllr Gerry Walsh. And Max.
It was a fittingly sedate and respectful affair, and fair play to everyone involved for pulling together for this fine memorial right in the heart of the town.
Hmm, feels weird, not saying something smart and incredibly witty here…

Ceremony tonight for Greystones Municipal District went very well.
Greystones Guide has summed it up nicely. See above.
Our 1916 Commemoration site is easily reached in Burnaby Park on the Mill Road.
Why not pay it a visit ??
The site is beautifully laid out, with a flag pole, commemoration stone with Proclamation
printed in both Irish and English and seven trees, one for each signatory of the Proclamation.
Well done to Greystones council staff for their hard work.
May the people of Greystones enjoy this new landmark in our town.
And many more centuries as a democratic country.
