Happy Pear Cookies KO’d

Having had a little trouble with their faulty basil back in February 2017, the Happy Pear have now had to recall their somewhat famous seed cookies and cookie bites.

The reason being, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland have deemed them unsafe due to the presence of ethylene oxide in the sesame seeds used.

The recalled products are the 100g packs of the brand’s Seedy Cookie Bites and the 350g and bulk packs of Sally’s Seedy Cookies.

Ethylene oxide is a pesticide, and is toxic to humans. It is also not authorised for use in foods sold in the EU. 

The consumption of the above Happy Pear cookies does not impose an immediate health risk, but there may be health issues if there is continued consumption of the pesticide over a long period of time.

The implicated batches have best before dates up to and including December 22nd, and retailers have been instructed to remove any instore from display whilst also posting a notice in stores where the affected batches were sold.
