Has Anyone Warned Kilcoole…?

Sure, it looks like just like any other Saturday night at Byrne’s of Kilcoole…

The sun is setting, the traditional sprinkling of late summer rain is falling gently across the town, and some eejit has stopped right in the middle of the car park, because the girlfriend is just running into the offie to get a six-pack of Guinness, four packets of honey, dry roasted nuts and a 1 litre bottle of gin.

Big, big anniversary.

Little do the good townsfolk of Kilcoole realise though that there is a gathering in their midst. A gathering of ravished, raging and, most dangerous of all, reminiscing souls who will be hitting the memories of old hard. And the bar even harder.

For tonight is something of an historic occasion, as workers from Quinnsworth and, when it changed hands, Tesco are having their first-ever reunion session.

The ringleader would appear to be Linda Byrne, travelling all the way over from England to help get this party started, whilst there are former co-workers driving from all corners of Ireland to take a trolley ride down memory lane.

For safety reasons, GG thought it best to arrive early, before the witching hour really kicked in, to talk with Linda and some of her co-workers about the night that lay ahead, and the decades that lay behind…
