oung Derek Mitchell has been in touch, about the Dublin Array Wind Farm survey vessel that’s just set up home in Greystones.

With the Array gang employing four such vessels along the Bray and Kish banks, the 16m-long Spectrum 1 pulled the long straw, and will be in town for approximately eight weeks.

The boat’s 8-man crew will be staying locally. Where they can enjoy many an after-work hour standing outside our many shut pubs and restaurants.

“These surveys are needed to plan details of the wind farm,” says Cllr Mitchell. “I have been keen to get wind farm boats to use the harbour, to provide business and, later, jobs for the area.

“Especially as we are going to be looking at the completed turbines.”

Which some in the town are very excited about. And others not so much. Verging on feckin’ furious.
