s the wise Abba Eban once said, history teaches us that men and nations behave wisely once they have exhausted all other alternatives.

How much Ireland has learnt from its efforts to build a new state in the aftermath of the 1916 rising will be the subject of this year’s La Touche Legacy Conference, being held over the weekend of September 29th and 30th.

Now in its 29th year, and working closely, once again, with Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society, the La Touche Legacy has become a nationally-renowned gathering of those who realise that the past often holds the key to not only who we are, but who we may become.

And no one knows that better than George Jones, one of the founders of not only the La Touche Legacy but also Greystones’ annual Festival Of History.

With a free launch talk at the Greystones Golf Club on Monday, May 29th at 7.30pm – wherein Professor Michael Laffan will discuss the man who succeeded Michael Collins as the Chairman of the Provisional Government of the Irish Free State, W.T.
