How Come Greystones Hardly Has A Pot To Piss In?

Pretty much every morning, regular as clockwork, one of the crew working on the new marina pays a quick-ish visit to the public toilets beside Joe Sweeney’s chipper.

Which is all fine and dandy, were it not for the fact that these veteran toilets have been officially closed for the last few years.

Does this guy know something that we don’t? Or is he, just like so many Greystonians, making the best of a bad situation and relieving himself where’er he can?

Truth be told, Greystones has feck all public toilets. Two, that we can think of. One at the South Beach car park, and the other at the railway bridge car park, a little further up the coast.

After that, you’re on your own. Behind those bushes. Over that wall. Or, if your aim is straight and true, right in that bottle.

For most people, it’s a quick visit into the nearest cafe or bar, as you desperately try to avoid eye contact with the staff, or pretend that you’re looking for your mate, John.

Ever since the harbour opened up its arms again to the general public, there’s been a steady stream of red-faced and cross-legged visitors rushing to The Beach House or La Créperie Pierre Grise.

The latter have gotten so used to being treated like the friendly neighbour’s house that they’ve now installed a third bathroom, solely for staff. Have a break, have a quick crépe, indeed.

So, whoever’s looking after the moolah in this town, have mercy, and throw us a few coppers for a few crappers. Now. Or on your head be it.
