Given that it’s not so much by the sea but practically in it, the new Harbour eaterie is undoubtedly going to be one of the coolest cafés in town.

And the sweet thing is, rather than the usual members-only nonsense that sometimes come with these fine harbour establishments, this one is going to be open to the great unwashed.

Although, to be clear, having had a wash at some point during that week will help the other patrons enjoy their afternoon tea too.

Yep, the building of the new two-storey building on one of the end piers down at the harbour has gotten underway, with the first floor becoming the harbourmaster’s permanent HQ, and the upstairs given over to a restaurant. The running of which will be going out to tender.

With the building itself due to be finished in four months, we headed down at this early stage to talk to the harbourmaster himself, Bernard Gallagher, about the work, and when we can expect to starting spending lazy afternoon on the rooftop terrace having our flakiest, crumbliest pastry snacks snatched right out of hands by those dastardly seagulls…

Sadly, as yet, the planning has not been granted for a sniper turret on the north-east side of the building.
