So young, so innocent…

So young, so innocent…
n the same week that local TD Stephen Donnelly opens up in Hot Press magazine about his reasons for leaving The Social Democrats (largely because they wouldn’t go into government,
he states) and his readiness to join a new political party, the rumour mill is grinding hard surrounding a possible wooing of the Greystones politician by Fianna Fáil.
About to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2021, Fianna Fáil can smell victory in the next election – and are keen to have as many healthy soldiers on their side as possible.
Melia wouldn’t reveal who that councillor was though, going on to say, ‘It’ll be a BAD move for them. I think it’s only fair to give the person the time to make the RIGHT decision before naming them’.
Efforts to wrangle the name of said politician from young Charlie by asking if it might be Donnelly – a TD, granted, but clearly keen to be a team player – had the Wicklow Council Watch editor not denying the possibility, stating nonetheless that he could see the former Social Democrat ‘making the jump at some point this year’.
For those of you none-too-crazy about buying Hot Press – The Magazine With Its Finger On The Purse – the 40-year-old Greystones politician also reveals in his interview that he smoked marijuana (and he wants it legalised), is a black belt in Taekwan-Do, almost got expelled from UCD, feels Ireland should be ashamed for not participating in the Second World War, and that watching a lot of Star Trek growing up has instilled in Donnelly a real hope that “there’s spaceships and laser beams and all manner of cool stuff” out there.
