Is Greystones The Poor Wicklow Cousin…?

ach and every one of us beautiful, firm-buttocked Greystonians is, of course, dirty stinking rich.

Man, our only problem in life is which over-priced coffee shop to spend our ill-gotten gains in each day.

Still, that’s no reason why, when it comes to government spending, that Greystones should get the short edge of the wedge.

In Arklow, the average spend on the residents there is €227 per annum. In Bray, it’s €194. In sunny, soaraway Greystones? Be the jiggers, it’s only €137.

Holy, that hardly covers a day’s wages for the butler!

According to local councillor Derek Mitchell, these numbers are being largely defined by 2001 or earlier patterns, failing to take into consideration new money-spinning new government initiatives, such as the Local Property Tax. Which, in the case of Greystones, is pretty darn high.

A recent article in The Irish Times by Catherine Murphy TD also highlighted that Wicklow, despite a rapidly-growing population, is not being adequately funded.
