atest press release from Cllr Stephen Stokes, issued on Monday,
From March 2nd, services are to be axed from Loughlinstown, Shankill, Bray or Greystones.Public representatives were informed by email from Hanover Communications.
Cllr Stephen Stokes wrote to Kim Swan, Managing Director of Aircoach to outline a number of issues on January 24th, 2025.
Cllr Stephen Stokes is disappointed that Aircoach did not consult local representatives that they were planning to axe the 702 route, before announcing the decision. He stated: “The discontinuation of the 702 route is a significant setback for our community.
“Instead they hired a PR firm to handle their image. The image here is clear, Aircoach mismanaged previous changes, and now they have taken the easy option.
In light of these developments, Cllr Stokes is calling upon the National Transport Authority (NTA) and Minister for Transport, Darragh O’Brien, to intervene promptly. Cllr Stokes added: “It is imperative that the NTA and the Minister take immediate action to ensure the continuation of a direct public transport link between Bray-Greystones and Dublin Airport.
Cllr Stephen Stokes also urges Aircoach to reconsider its decision, taking into account the adverse effects on the community and the environment.

The taxi’s friend…

February 17th 2025…

Greystones Municipal District calls on Aircoach to ensure that drivers do not leave their engines idling for long periods before commencing a service. Additionally the Greystones Municipal District would request to be consulted ahead of any decision to change the 702 route.”
This service has been an essential link for residents, facilitating direct travel to Dublin Airport. Its removal not only disrupts personal and professional travel plans but also undermines our collective efforts to promote sustainable transportation options. It’s a pity that Aircoach didn’t have the decency to write to local representative directly.

This should not be allowed to happen. It is disgraceful. Might as well all get cars now and clog up the roads and destroy the environment.
Here we are in April now and no nearer to getting a new coach service to the airport. I asked Simon Harris’s office in Bray what has he done to support us regular airport users? He has called for a review…………… brilliant. I asked the Wexford Bus company why can’t they pick up passengers for the airport in Kilmac where they drop off passengers? They say they can’t because Aircoach has the license. Wexford Bus have applied to the NTA for the license but this is a long and weighty process it seems. So the NTA hum and haw and twiddle their thumbs while we suffer? Absurdistan rules

We have relied on the Aircoach for many years now to get us to the airport safely and without resorting to our car. With the axing of the 84X this makes public transport from Greystones complicated and takes way too long. Our public representatives, including Simon Harris, have ignored this restructuring which makes travelling from this fast expanding town completely reliant on private cars, totally against environmental advice. We are very angry!!!
How do we get o they airport now from Graystones as tax would b 100 each way money u could used for
hoilday pls keep thy aircoach as I love it
Maybe 133 from Newtown would now restart going to the airport? It’s not a 24 hour service but, better than nothing… time to talk to buseirann or who ever runs it…
I rely on this bus for working at the airport! Was always a great service until it changed route and increased frequency. It’s a shame for it to go! Will now have to get the dart and 41 bus into work! The two routes should never have merged. Would be great if they even went back to the every two hour service….was much more reliable
Hi, I live in Bray and I am retired now, so I travel at any opportunity. If the Aircoach ceases in Bray my travels would also cease as Taxis to and from the airport would cost as much as the flight’s. Even with the change in the route and the journey taking twice the time I was still very happy to have this service. Surely it would upset a huge amount of people who like me totally depend on this service. Please reconsider?
Why doesn’t the E1 bus service the airport instead of some obscure location in Santry?
A good alternative is to use the Dart and the excellent Dublin Express service from Custom House to the airport.
I thoroughly agree with you – before Covid the route was regular & sustained. Now – as you point out, the two routes amalgamated takes nearly 3 hours – which added to the required 2 hour check-in time means you could almost be in New York before you even leave Dublin Airport. PLEASE for once, listen to the people…..we NEED this facility!..
I used the 702 service regularly for years but after Aircoach was take over the service became less regular, then the length of route was increased taking, longer, the latest action of combining the 702 with the 703 makes the service impractical taking too long and unreliable. Now I have to take a taxi or use the DART and bus. It’s a pity how private enterprises destroy good services in their attempts to increase margins.
This service is essential for everyone traveling from Bray. I use it a lot. Not enough parking at the airport. It is a nightmare driving there. We need this BUS service
We always used to take this service but it now takes so long to get to the airport that we have been trying other ways – Dart to Tara street and then Dublin Express from the Custom House.
Yes that would be the quickest from Greystones. Dublin Express great frequent service 24 hrs too.
