Greystones Sinn Féin representatives and local election candidates Esther Kelly and Brian Fogarty have raised serious concerns about the current condition of the road at Crowe Abbey, particularly in relation to the absence of road markings at the traffic calming speed ramps.

The lack of these crucial markings has resulted in a dangerous situation where motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the area, are inadvertently hitting the speed ramps, posing a serious risk to public safety and damaging their vehicles.

Brian Fogarty said “It is imperative that Wicklow County Council takes immediate action to reinstate the road markings on the road at Crowe Abbey. These markings play a crucial role in alerting drivers to the presence of speed ramps, allowing them to adjust their speed accordingly and navigate the road safely. Without clear and visible markings, motorists are left unaware of the impending obstacles, leading to abrupt braking or swerving manoeuvres that can cause accidents and endanger lives.

Several of the speed ramps are also in a poor condition, with potholes that have been poorly filled in. So even travelling at the speed limit these ramps are dangerous. Motorists must slow right down when crossing them. Not knowing they are there until a motorist hits them is extremely dangerous.”

Esther Kelly said “The safety of all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists, is at stake. The current situation not only jeopardises public safety but also undermines the confidence of residents in the council’s ability to effectively manage and maintain the road infrastructure.

“It is unacceptable that such a basic, yet essential aspect of road safety has been neglected, and immediate action must be taken to rectify this oversight.

“We therefore call on Wicklow County Council to prioritize the reinstatement of road markings at Crowe Abbey. By doing so, the council will demonstrate its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents and visitors alike. Delaying action on this matter is not an option, as every day without proper road markings increases the risk of accidents and injuries.

“In conclusion, we have contacted Wicklow County Council and asked them to take swift and decisive action to reinstate the road markings on Crowe Abbey.

“The safety of our community depends on it, and we trust that the council will act in the best interest of its residents by prioritising road safety measures without further delay.”
