If you’re in the area, Rachel’s Secret Garden Café at Arboretum Kilquade is one of those places people quietly recommend, and then keep going back to.

Named after Arboretum founder Rachel Doyle, the café is all about good, honest food cooked from scratch. Whether you’re calling in for breakfast, a late lunch or just a coffee and something sweet, everything is made on-site by a team who really care about what they serve.

The menu celebrates Irish ingredients, from local meat and eggs to seasonal vegetables and herbs grown nearby.

There are plenty of gluten-free and plant-based options too.

And this January, the much-loved Braised Irish Beef Stew is €12 (usually €15.95), perfect after a winter walk around the gardens.

No bookings, kids welcome, great coffee — a lovely local favourite.
