Tuesday, March 3rd saw the opening of the St David’s TY students latest annual production, Shrek The Musical, taking the stage in the school’s new sports hall, much to the excitement of both cast and audience.
The TY team have been working constantly for months on end to prepare for the long-awaited four nights.
The countless hours of practice proved to be well worth it as the entire team put on an outstanding show.
Plotwise, we follow the story of a grumpy green ogre, Shrek, who lives peacefully in a desolate swamp. He is disrupted by fairytale characters – including Pinocchio, Gingy and the three little pigs – who invade his home as they have been banished by Lord Farquaad.
To reclaim his swamp, Shrek agrees to rescue the trapped Princess Fiona for Farquaad. As Shrek embarks on his journey, he is reluctantly joined by Donkey, a comedic, talkative and optimistic companion.
Kudos to the cast, who delivered excellent performances.
Although a familiar story, the re-imagining of Shrek in musical form will live long in the memory thanks in large part to the remarkable talent on display, from the impeccable singing, pin-point choreography and genuinely entertaining acting.
Alongside this, the stunning set and fantastical staging ensured audience members were treated to a visual feast in every scene.
