hese early shots of our fine little town by the mighty Luke McGuinness are deceptively simple.
And sometimes, simply deceptive, it having taken us a while to spot the second Kinsellas’ dog above…Â
So, worth taking your time with these pics over a cup of tea. Or a pint. And maybe even a few tunes on the banjo.
We first were handed a batch of Luke’s wonderful shots by his daughter, Paula, and her other half, Steven Goodfellow, back in April 2016. Over the following months, two more batches arrived, and it was heartening to think that the late photographer’s work was finally being put out there.
Not that Luke McGuinness was taking these shots to be noticed. His work is too personal, too close to the heart, totally bereft of the need for instant gratification of the Instagram generation.Â
These shots were taken purely to capture a hometown, from the great snow of 1982 to diggers arriving on the harbour, Parkinson’s chipper getting knocked down and that hardy Buttercrust van making it through all weathers.
Just as we did last week with Harry Acheson’s old shots, we’ve given Luke’s the Full John Hinde makeover here, turning the technicolour all the way up to 11. Sometimes, it works wonders; at others, it might be closer to a blunder…
Either way, you can check ’em out below, with the full gallery of makeovers here, and the originals right over here.
