Three generations, one big farewell… SAT29APR23

ver the past three decades, Anne Scheopler has seen just about every good, bad and muddy Greystonian walk through her door.

Having stood behind the counter of QClean day in and sometimes even day off, the Cafferky lass has been a part of the town’s history for 29 years now.

Which might just be only third to Joe Sweeney and the late, great Mrs Mooney.

Today, catching pretty much everyone by surprise, Anne handed in her badge to spin doctor Dave, having apparently gotten a few years shaven off thanks to handling so much of Wicklow County Council’s dirty laundry down through the years.

There to wish her bon voyage were her children and grandchildren, each of them having become as familiar as the rest of the town at seeing Anne smiling that trademark smile as the wonderful smell of fresh linen filled the air.

But, hey, time and Tide wait for no man. Or woman. Especially if they’re feeling all washed up.

“After 29 wonderful years, I finally say goodbye,” Anne told us, “but with many wonderful memories.

“I have met so many customers who turned out to be friends as well, and I head out the door with a happy heart…”

And three pillow cases. So, another long-serving player in the town’s history deservedly hangs up their hangers. We wish Anne all the fun in the world for her retirement.
