Social Democrats TD for Wicklow, Jennifer Whitmore, has set up a Facebook group to collate information on L buses in Wicklow after a surge in complaints about the services.

“I’ve been hearing about problems with L buses in Wicklow since the rollout of Bus Connects last year, but there has been a serious increase in reports to my office in recent weeks,” Deputy Whitmore explained.

“Issues range from buses not following their route to buses not stopping for teenage commuters, to the more classic issues with no shows and delayed services. I raised these issues with GoAhead and met with them today, and they inform me that the issues are being, or have been, resolved. If this is the case, fantastic, but I am still hearing from constituents about problems with the L buses, so I decided to set up a Facebook group.”

“The group is a way for me to collate information about problems regarding reliability, safety, and any other issues with L buses in Wicklow.

“This way, I can have a holistic view of what’s happening with the buses and then bring them to the NTA, GoAhead or indeed the Minister, to get a resolution.”

“I want to bring some long overdue transparency to the provision of our bus service in Wicklow. We’re often told that the issues we are raising are not issues at all, but that is not the reality of people on the ground. At the moment, my social media and mailbox is inundated with messages from people about L buses, so I know that there are huge issues here.”

“I want to stress that it is really important to report any issues that you experience with our public buses through the official channels – the TFI have a centralised customer feedback portal where you can log incidents that you experience or witness, which you can find via the Help and Feedback section of their website. This is how the NTA monitors customer experience with bus providers so it is a really important thing to use.”

“I hope that this Facebook group will serve as an additional tool, on top of people reporting issues to TFI, to bring transparency to these issues and afford me oversight of the issues.”

“It’s really important that our bus services are reliable, frequent, and efficient. At the moment, GoAhead buses are falling behind in those categories,” Whitmore concluded.

“Wicklow constituents deserve a bus service that they have confidence in and I’ll keep doing what I can to ensure that is provided.”
