an, it’s like all the roads, paths and laneways around here are trying to get themselves into shape for Christmas…
Everywhere you turn right now, roadworks!
And now it’s the turn of the ancient Mill Lane – or is it called The Mill Path? – that runs between Evans’ bridge on the Kilcoole road to the Greystones side of Killincarrig, where the beautiful Castle Aldi now stands.
The upgrade will start on Monday, October 2nd, and is expected to last three to four weeks.
Here’s town engineer RuairĂ O’Hanlon with the detail…
The upgrade will consist of clearing back the vegetation at the edges and putting down a much firmer and drier compacted gravel surface, similar to what we put in at St Crispin’s Cell. The upgrade is to improve the quality of the pedestrian link so as to encourage users from the Eden Gate, Glenbrook Park and new Glenheron housing developments to walk to Greystones, and is a follow-on project from the Three Trout River bridge widening project of 2016. A compacted gravel surface is being used also to retain the woodland feel of the walk whilst being able to cater for prams, wheelchairs and bicycles within the urban environment.
In the meantime, GG has long been planning a quick history of this handy little pathway, but we just haven’t met the right local historian egghead. Still, here’s the video we shot last October of the walk.
We’ll revisit once again with that elusive egghead once the upgrade has been completed…Â
