f ever there was any doubt about the belief that even the sunniest person has a dark side, Greystones goddess Eilo Vickers is living proof that you can’t have a sunny yin without a blackhearted yang.

This is the woman, after all, who has been bringing joy and happiness to Greystones for far more decades that she’d want us to mention.

An integral part of Greystones pretty much all her life, from her Killincarrig childhood, attending school and hanging out here, to settling down in Grattan Park with the lucky Jim to bring up three strapping, scrapping and crapping young boys – Cyril, John and Bobby – having Eilo around has always made life in this town seem that little bit sweeter. And from her time working in The La Touche Hotel, and then Tesco, and now Vincent’s, the woman has been a part of pretty much every Greystonian’s life, greeting everyone she meets with a smile on her face, a twinkle in her eye, and a juicy bit of gossip up her sleeve.

Which would explain why Eilo Vickers is one of the town’s most popular people.

Sure, how could you not love this woman, who manages to exude sunshine even on the rainiest of days?

And yet, Eilo Vickers isn’t all raindrops on roses and mittens on kittens. The woman has a dark side. A deep, dark, troubled side.

And we’re not talking about her undying love of Fianna Fáil here. We’re talking about something even more sinister, even more decadent and depraved.

Brace yourselves, kids!

Eilo Vickers is a big, big fan of country singing sensation Nathan Carter. A big, big, big fan.

So, next time you see Eilo out on the streets, spare a thought for her husband, Jim, and her three kids. And her soul.

Together, we might just be able to pull her back from the dark side. A little Beatles here, a dash of Bowie there, a spoonful of James Brown mixed with Ray Charles before bed.

After all, Nathan Carter is a gateway country artist. Next step, dabbling in Daniel O’Donnell.

And then, before you know it, Eilo Vickers will be on Crystal Swing.
