nyone who’s more than a bit partial to yummy food will already know John Hartnett’s big, smiling face…

That’s because he’s the man behind the counter, and the ideas, down at Theatre Lane restaurant.

Having slowly built up a reputation around the town for food that’s a cut above on quality and a cut below on price, this award-winning restaurant recently welcomed the award-winning chef, Daniel Taylor, into the fold.

Which would explain why it’s now opening extra nights – Thursdays having just been added to their new timetable.

But what of the man behind it all? Well, John’s plainly passionate about food, and coming from a job that had him spending more time at airports than at home, he’s more than happy to combine his love of good food with his love of the good life. At home, here in Greystones, with his wife, Grace, daughter Lily and, most importantly, his faithful mutt, Lottie.

Even if he does look like a pocket-sized stuffed toy. The dog, that is. Not John.

With the likes of TripAdvisor regularly giving Theatre Lane their no.1 slot for Greystones, John has plainly made the right choice in turning his back on the daily slog of airport check-ins and embracing the joys of  free range chickens.

So, swing by, and say hi. And have a feast. And if you stick around, John might even take you down The Cove after closing. For some latenight rock-skimming.
