The Cheeky Girls are BACK! THURS30OCT25 John McGowan
he weather outside was pretty darn frightful but inside The
Whale last night, hey, delightful!
And that’s because the Greystones Arts Centre Initiative crew held their first exciting fundraising night at The Whale, Spirit in the Stones bringing together artists from many genres to reflect on the spirit of our town.
An eclectic evening of poetry, music, performance and wellness, all proceeds from the night are going to the dream of creating the town’s very own arts centre.
On the night, Greystones Players will took everyone on a tour, from the 1800s to the present day, with letters, poems, songs, newspaper articles, and a sketch by Paul Howard (the funny fecker behind Ross O’Carroll Kelly) called Nearly South County Dublin!. Hey, that’s about us!
Local poets Frances Browner, Paul T. Dillon, Sian Quill, Deirdre McKernan Crosby and Gerald Sweeney all shared their work whilst musicians John Dwyer, Eileen McLane and Robert Bates got everyone soft-rockin’.
And when it came to the fine art of speech craft, the highly articulate Greystones Toastmasters graced and paced the stage, while sound therapist Layla Moroney took everyone on a guided meditation through the ‘Stones. Not all those present made it back.
A representative from Greystones Wellness Hub then attempted to put everyone in a coma before all those present finished the night with a wobbly singsong.
Hitting those high Cs, John McGowan was also there, capturing the night. Full gallery here.
