Cliff Walk Taskforce Assemble! Again!

t’s a long and winding saga that will celebrate its fifth year in February, and now, the latest official meeting to reopen The Cliff Walk has just been announced.

Due to take place in mid-November, Tánaiste Simon Harris will take his newly-formed taskforce to Wicklow County Council where he will be given the great big beautiful bill from chief executive Emer O’Gorman for the works needed.

This follows the RPS Group’s geotechnical engineering report in September that pretty much repeated all the previous reports taken over the years.

The main issues being the stabilisation of rockfall on the Bray end and a small section of path slippage on the Greystones end. Problems that have been dealt with on numerous occasions in the past.

Without actually closing the walk for years.

It was back in May that economist Jim Power published his report into the cost on the local economy when it came to the popular walk’s closure, which he estimated at €50,000 per day. Which has amounted to over €70m in lost revenue since February 2021.

It’s a loss that has contributed to Bochelli’s closing its doors this week after 20 years, and is a definite reason why everyone from The Happy Pear to The Harbour Kitchen is struggling of late.
