he latest exhibition at The Boat Yard Gallery down at the harbour will take place on Saturday, October 5th and Sunday 6th.

And it will showcase none other than Orla Madden.

Of the infamous Madden family of artists.

Here’s the lowdown…

Orla Madden comes from three generations of professionally trained artists and draughtsmen.

Orla trained at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, and has taken courses at the National College Of Art & Design and Institute Of Art & Design. Orla also worked for 10 years in animation, trained by the last generation of animators who studied under Walt Disney himself.

Working in animation under the tutelage of this team, drawing for eight hours a day, five days a week, for ten years was an amazing discipline, experience and artist training. She is, as with all her experiences, extremely grateful for her training with these world class artists.

Orla trained privately with the Irish artists Declan Boyle, Maria Clarke, and the realistic trained artist William A. Nathans. Orla believes in constant continual artist development and learning.

Orla first learnt from her mother, the artist Ann Kelly Madden, watching her sketch and paint on holidays and at home, the latter having trained with George Collie, the realistic art tutor, in Dublin, and with the Greek artist Maria Clarke, as well as Liam Belton at North Strand Tech, among others. Ann continually imparted her knowledge to her daughter.

Now teaching art privately and to organisations, Orla’s art is based on her love of nature and the environment. Her aim in her work is to uplift and inspire people in the same way observing nature uplifts and inspires her. Orla’s artworks are in private art collections in Ireland and Canada.

Her upcoming exhibition, Weapons Of Mass Creation, comes to the Boat Yard Gallery in
Greystones, and is comprised of two bodies of work.

1) Zen and the Circled Light Rays, a series of large plein air watercolours.
2) Everything Is, a series of large pastel studio pieces.

The exhibition runs from Saturday, October 5th to Sunday 6th, 12pm to 5pm daily, and all are very welcome to drop by chat about the art and enjoy.

The upcoming exhibition can be viewed here prior to the exhibition. Expressions of interest and purchase can be made through the Boat Yard Gallery prior to the exhibition, where there is also 30 limited edition signed small prints of each large artwork available.. All sold artworks will be available for collection from 5pm on Sunday 6th from the gallery.

Orla believes art is for everyone. As Pablo Picasso said, “Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life”.
