People Of The Year 2019

A little more political, commercial and conspiratorial than the Guide’s annual Greystones Person Of The Year, the winners  of this year’s People Of The Year awards are here.

Run by the District Councillors in conjunction with the back-slapping, money-grabbin’ Harris Times, the awards ‘wish to honour persons for their achievements and their contribution to the community’.

There was also, as always, a Special Person Of The Year award to recognise people who have overcome personal difficulties in their achievements.

All the nominations had to be residents of our fine district, the one exception being the commercial nominee – once their business is in the Greystones Muncipal District.

The hope is that all clubs, organisations and businesses would get involved in the nomination process, therefore ensuring a bountiful harvest for The Wicklow Times when it comes to their ad features.

Joint Civic Award: Patrick (Pappy) Frawley
Special Award: Marie Kelly
Cultural Award: Ailbhe Skay
Commercial Award: David Martin Hair Salon
Young Entrepreneur Award: Johanna Dooley
Special Recognition Award: Greystones Churches Together

So, so inspiring, if a little in-house. Gabriel Dooley tells us he was pretty much shocked when Wicklow Times editor Shay Fitzmaurice nominated his Melbourne-based daughter, Johanna, for the Young Entrepreneur Award.
