he Boat Yard Gallery gang have been in touch about their latest weekend outdoor exhibition.

Happening on Saturday 30th and Sunday 1st, the star of the show this time is Rachel Kerr.

And her biography goes a little something like this…

Rachel is a local artist who graduated from NCAD with a Degree in Fine Art Painting. She works in acrylics, watercolours and printmaking (etching).

She takes her inspiration from the natural world. She has the strong belief that our very beings are intrinsically connected with the Earth and that the Earth has the power to nurture and sustain us.

Through her work, she wants the viewer to feel some of the essence of the experience of being in the natural world. She wants to share that sense of ‘grounding’, of being still and present, and to guide the viewer into experiencing or looking closer at nature and regaining a sense of wonderment and connection with our natural world.

She approaches her work by laying down layers to build up the surface so to invite the viewer to touch the work, to have a tactile experience. Her work has evolved from quite detailed work to looser, more expressionist and atmospheric work as can be seen in her new work, Biosphere.

Rachel took a sabbatical from painting for a good number of years but is now excited. be embracing painting again and exploring new ways of creating artwork. She will be showing some of her previous work alongside some new pieces at The Boat Yard exhibition.

Running from 12pm to 5pm daily, you can catch Rachel Kerr at Greystones’ Boat Yard Gallery on Saturday, September 30th and Sunday, October 1st.
