Danielle…

t was on February 8th 2023 that Newcastle’s Danielle Longmore lost her battle with cancer.

Having one last adventure in Palermo, Sicily, this Newcastle mum was determined to live the life she had left to the fullest.

The tributes began flowing immediately, with Newcastle GAA Club stating, ‘The village has lost a beautiful person – wacky, quirky, outgoing, happy, and just a beautiful person inside and out‘.

For many of those who knew and loved Danielle, they wanted to do something significant in her name, and it wasn’t long before a race night was organised to raise funds for The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, who had brought her home.

The committee for the race night included Ian Longmore, John Bradshaw, Sharon Fitzpatrick, Anto Byrne, Willie Doyle, Aisling Reid, Carla Honan, John Barry and Barry Sheehan, along with a whole truckload of helpers, with Paddy Frawley the MC for the main event.

The race night in Danielle’s name raised a staggering €32,392, and Kevin Bell’s father, Colin, and trustee Kevin Heaney drove up from Newry on Friday night to accept the cheque.

“Many, many thanks to the Longmore family,” said Colin. “And to everyone involved in this incredible fundraiser. This will help so many other families…”
