larger than life figure in more ways than one, Ronan Lynch has sadly passed…

Even in a village like Delgany – which has far more than its fair share of characters – the man was something special.

Just how special he was we decided to let the man’s own family explain…

Over to the Lynch mob…

The man known to his friends and sworn enemies as Rags was a very familiar sight around Delgany and Greystones – partly because of how tall he was, and partly because of the fact that he had the largest collection of heavy metal t-shirts in the world.

And although he looked like an imposing Viking, everyone knew this towering figure was really just a gentle giant.

After growing up (well, in height anyway), Ronan spent a few wild years in Holland, working as a doorman and then as a barman, but his heart was always back here in Ireland.

Making friends wherever he went, pretty much from birth, Ronan could charm any man, woman or cranky dog. And if someone didn’t like him, there was always his beloved martial arts. Even when Type 1 diabetes took his left leg, Ronan continued his training, used as an example of resilience by his tutor for new students. Ronan was a true inspiration…

Unfortunately, his illness would eventually stop his martial arts training, but, being a true ninja, Ronan remained positive.

The last couple of years were incredibly tough health-wise, with Ronan’s younger brother Damien thankfully always there to care for him and keep the laughs coming.

Ronan was thrilled with his unsurprisingly huge Viking nephews, who would visit from Hull, and in more recent years, the arrival of the next generation of Lynchs, his niece and baby nephew bringing him endless joy.

Much-loved by so many, Ronan Lynch will be missed, especially by his family – sister Fiona, brothers Damien and PJ, his brother-in-law Pete, sister-in-law Coco, and all his beloved nephews and niece.

Ronan ‘Rags’ Lynch Will be laid to rest at the Holy Rosary Church on Wednesday, December 9th at 12pm followed by burial at Redford Cemetery. The service will be streamed live here. Sepia pics by Anne Reid.
