Well, all of that might just be about to change, given that a bunch of its younger members have come together to form a Greystones Sailing Club junior committee.

hen it comes any long-running club or organisation, it’s always refreshing to see the new breed wrestle some control.
Free from any baggage, new eyes on old habits and creaky traditions will often bring light into any dark corners and a match to any deadwood.
Such is the case, it seems, down at the Greystones Sailing Club, where GG has long found the old guard verging on the masonic. It would be easier to organise afternoon tea with Shelly Miscavige to discuss miscarriages of thetan justice than find out what the heck the boys and girls have planned down at the harbour. We only ever hear from the fecks when they need a favour.
Having first popped into the head of 15-year-old member Robyn Maguire last December, this gang of 11 (all between 13 and 16 years of age) came into being in May. And they’re plainly keen to be as hands-on as possible when it comes to the running of the club they love so much.
About to hook up with Greystones Tidy Towns as well, to reinstate the stream of consciousness fish the teenagers have been busy cleaning, it’s clear that these young guns bring a strong stream of conscientiousness to their work, rest and sail.
And now, as they prepare for the ICLA 4.7 Youth Championships in Dun Laoghaire in August, Robyn and friend Eimear Farrell took time out to explain why the young should be at the heart of the Greystones Sailing Club…
