Then again, when your mate invites you over because they’ve found some old, unseen footage of Greystones harbour…

And so it was that we swung over to Dave Caulfield’s Seaview cottage in Blacklion this afternoon, to feast our eyes upon some old home video recording done by his late, great pop, Jimmy Caulfield. with his trusty 16-pound VHS camcorder by his side.

Only trouble is, we’re not sure if this footage is early or late 1970s or early 1980s.  “Not that it really matters,” says Dave. “It’s just great to see Darcy’s field in all its glory, and the Gap Bridge, still quite a bit back from the sea, and best of all, what looks like a topless Tommy Grealy.

“That should get the grans watching.”

With more tapes yet to be explored, ladies and gentlemen, here’s a slightly grainy and wibbly-wobbly five minutes of Greystones harbour, from way back when. Before it went electric.
