ell, Holy Elvis, it’s like we’ve bartered our souls when it comes to the weather for our outdoor screenings down at The Cove.
For Grease and Mamma Mia!, the weather was positively balmy. Tonight, after the sunniest, warmest day in weeks, we got a night sky full of red hues and beams of yellow. Followed by a cool, barely-there breeze.
Which meant that tonight’s screening of Some Like It Hot was a perfect fit for a mellower kind of night, and a mellower kind of crowd.
We only had to break out the taser twice. It was that peaceful.
Ross McParland and the Theatre Lane crew started getting it all ready around 6pm, so that, when people started arriving at 8pm, there were flags waving, deckchairs beckoning, the free crepes, the free popcorn, the selfie station, the spot prizes, the inflatables…
And we were there to capture it all. Given that summer is slipping away, it was dark by 9pm. Meaning that we didn’t get all of the creatures of the wild night this time out, given that it was already dark when some of the wilder ones (Hi, Car!) arrived.
Big thanks, as always, to the mighty Ross McParland and the gang – the incredible Lisa, Arianna, Oisin, Katie, Jonathan and the others too unimportant to remember by name – for putting the show on the road, and to Dave Byrne atoutdoormovies.iefor providing us with the dirty big screen and the kick-ass sound system. Oh, and to Mandy andThe Crepe Box, for keeping us fed, and toCarraig Eden, for letting us use their creppers.
We’ll all be meeting up again forJawson Friday, September 16th. This is a free screening, as part of Culture Night, so, it’s a simple first-come, first-serve screening. Happening at 9pm, Jaws will follow the two-hourRonnie Drew birthday bashat Theatre Lane, with three floors of music, dancers, artists, painters and the like, with Mrs Mooney on the top floor cutting the birthday cake and Andrew Holmes at the entrance, feeding the masses with his spit-roast.
In the meantime, let’s all go check out a bunch of Greystonians being silly on a beach at night. Full gallery of shotshere.
