he plan was, grab Pete and Susan for a quick video chat, a quick photo or two, and be out the door in five minutes.
But then, eh, we forgot the simple fact that Something Nice is just about the busiest ice cream parlour east of Vienna.
The reason for the chat was a the appearance of a little corner add in The Harris Times, which read, ‘Established ice cream parlour for sale as a going concern. Owner retiring‘. And there it was, hovering overhead, that name all lovers of award-winning ice cream have etched in their hearts; Something Nice.
Be. The. Feckin’. Jiggers.
The thirty minutes we spent down with the Speidels this evening – daughter Samantha joining the fray in the latter half – was proof enough that Something Nice is deeply embedded in this town. It’s the perfect little corner shop, having a few benches outside for the those who like to give their ice-cream their full love and attention, and enough treats inside – from chilled to foamed – to make even Willy Wonka’s head spin.
Having just gone on the market, that changing of the guard may take a week, it make take a few months, but, in the meantime, call in if you’re passing, and wish Pete and Susan a happy and, of course, chilled out retirement…
