Stolen Sharpeshill Rescue Dog Rescued In Bray

The sighthound and friend head back to Sharpeshill

he CCTV footage surfacing on Wednesday of two thieves throwing a dog over an outside wall at the NSPCA rescue centre in Ballygannon was truly upsetting.

Especially when those at the centre later revealed that the dog in question had recently undergone surgery.

The incident occurred just after 10pm on Tuesday night, and those at the Sharpeshill Animal Sanctuary were understandably left “traumatised” by the incident.

Well, all’s well that ends well, gardaí in Bray receiving a tip-off on Thursday from a member of the public stating that they had spotted said dog. Later that day, the sighthound was recovered.

A second stolen dog was also retrieved, gardaí posting on their social media that their detective branch had carried out the rescues during an Operation Thor day of action.

A spokesperson from the NSPCA stated, “We want to sincerely thank everyone who shared our post regarding the dog stolen from our Wicklow centre. We are relieved and delighted to confirm that she has been found safe and well and is currently receiving veterinary care.

“Thank you to the vigilant member of the public who spotted her and contacted Bray Garda Station. We’re also very grateful to An Garda Síochána and our NSPCA Inspectorate team, who acted quickly to ensure she was safely recovered and returned to our care.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support shown; it truly made the difference.”

With an Garda Síochána Wicklow said investigations are ongoing, here’s hoping the perpetrators are prosecuted. And persecuted.
