Strangeness On A Train

Katie & Ruben are on the case…

t’s a simple case of have talent, will travel when it comes to the ridiculously confident young Greystonians of today.

With the freedom to question every yin and every yang – even, gulp, de Church – it’s really only the black vortex of social media that most teens have to worry about.

Which, when you think about it, might be even more powerful than The Men In Black.

Still, with such freedoms comes ample opportunities for our blossoming youth to, well, blossom anyway, anyhow, anywhere they choose.

The lucky swines.

It’s a freedom you can see in the town’s new youth theatre, Making Waves, who hit the ground gunning last February with Juliet Of Verona, a modern take on the Shakespeare classic. The man brave enough to tamper with The Bard’s writing, Ciarán Coogan, has gone one better this time out and come up with an entirely original play. The story centres around a mysterious, mind-bending, time-warping suitcase that a group of fellow rail travellers find after their train grinds to a halt miles from nowhere. Or maybe they’re closer to nowhere than they think…?

It’s Narnia on wheels, or a gulp of Ghibli. If you follow our train of thought. And you love puns as much as we clearly do.

After all, we haven’t seen Lost In Transit yet, its world premiere happening at The Whale on Thursday, December 12th, with a 6.30pm and an 8.30pm performance.

And so, we dragged our good buddies Katie and Ruben out of rehearsals, just as that evening drizzle kicked in, to find out, well, what’s the story, Rory…?
