t was fitting that the presentation for this year’s Summer Stars readers at Greystones Library should happen on the same day that the It Takes A Village gang are having their Cove party.
The eight primary school principals behind Village are working on the basic principle that every child should have a childhood.
One of the finest places to explore your inner world is, of course, within the pages of a good book, and there were plenty of those read over the past three months by a group of local young explorers who this morning were presented with their Summer Stars medals.
Those enjoying great summer holidays without once worrying about the weather were Charlie Fleming, Betty Boxberger, Faye Collins, Lisa Collins, Amelia Mitchell, Dylan Mitchell, Amber Mitchell, Jaxson Mitchell, Sylvia Koenlgsdorder, Ralph Koenlgsdorfer, Finn Doherty, Nick Doherty, Aaron Doherty, Simon Doherty, Casino Tans, Georgia Brennan, Thea Brennan, Julia Doyle, Calla Wielopolski, Isla Wielopolski, Sé Hogan, Aoife Toby, Rebeka Kadar, Regina Kadar, Finn Kavanagh and Darragh Kavanagh.
There is, of course, a very good chance we’ll see quite a few of those names emblazoned across book covers in years to come.
Master of ceremonies for the day was Cathaorleach Mark Barry, who must have read at least 1,000 books over the summer given the size of his medal.
Congrats to all the kids today, and to the parents who recognised and encouraged their child’s passion for the written word. It’s just such a passion that has propelled GG to such a highly-rewarding and low-paying job today.
