t was a long time coming, and for a minute there, it appeared that Katie Taylor’s long fight to bring some of her world-conquering magic home was never going to happen.

An injury during training in February put her old opponent, Amanda Serrano, out of the picture, and the May 20th showdown at the 3Arena on hold.

But then, on May 20th, it was all sisters go, as undisputed lightweight champ Chantelle Cameron stepped into the ring. And dutifully delivered Taylor her first professional defeat.

And it was on her home turf too.

With the rematch now set for Saturday, November 25th in Croke Park, Taylor can take some pleasure in the fact that she’s a definite knockout when it comes to social media.

Figures just released put Taylor in the top 3 earners among Irish sports stars on Instagram.

“Think of the moolah, think of the moolah…”

With WWE start Becky Lynch at no.2 and Conor McGregor at no.1, Katie is the third biggest money-spinner on the social media site.

Which is nothing to be sniffed at. Thanks to his 46.2m followers, McGregor pulls in €111,495 for each sponsored post. Lynch (with 5.6m followers) earns €13,726 per post whereas Taylor’s 538,000 followers earns her €1,931 per post.

Which is an amount that, come to think of it, McGregor might sniff at, but, hey, it’s still a big chunk of change for simply holding up a product for a quick pic.

And if social media is ultimately 5 billion monkeys typing – or is it 5 billion dogs barking? – having an army of cheering fans when you step into the ring can make all the difference between victory and defeat. So, get ready to raise the roof on November 25th…
