Following many representations to the Council, I finally received news that The Cove has been classified as identified (designated) bathing water.

This follows several years of water quality testing and is great news for all the people that swim there.

As it is now an official bathing area, it means that the Council must continue water testing over the bathing season from June to September.

It also means that the Council must provide details of actions taken if pollution occurs and outline risks of pollution to the area.

Following recent bathing restrictions, these steps are very welcome in helping provide safe, clean water for the benefit of people and environment alike.

Another benefit of this classification is that The Cove will be monitored for safety and any issues should be reported to the Local Authority.

Overall this is good news for Greystones swimming community, many of who have been advocating for this classification for years.
