hen we sat down with local author Steven Duggan last December, it was all about the thrill of his having just published a thriller boasting thinly-disguised Greystones natives.
That The Devil Himself turned out to be a very fine thriller indeed – with even noted Hollywood screenwriter John Whelpley (Dallas, Baywatch, Beverly Hills 90210) giving it the thumbs up – was hardly surprising, given Duggan’sCV.
The man is one of the few true shining lights in the self-publishedcapital of Ireland.
What neither of us could have expected though was that this book would go on to sell 10,000 copies worldwide.
Which is rock’n’roll to Greystones Cancer Support’s ears, given that Steven and Village Bookshop owner Fenella Murphy had pledged from day one that every single cent from The Devil Himself sold there would go straight to the GCS gang.
Their chairperson, Anne Ivory, met up with Steven and Fenella this afternoon to mark the occasion – and to say thank you for the €3,500 that The Devil Himself had raised for Greystones Cancer Support. And that number is set to increase over the coming months.
“It’s an incredible gesture,” says Anne, “and we’re incredibly grateful. This will make a huge difference to our new year, and we can’t thank Steven and Fenella enough for their very kind gesture.”
Boom! And while we have you there, congrats to the Duggan lad for recently coming second in this year’s Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award with his collection, Fully Formed. You can check it outhere.
