The Eagle Has Landed

e’s been missing for over a week now, and owner John Nugent had begun to think that his beloved Kalin might never be coming home.

He’s an eagle, after all, and they do like their freedom.

And small rodents chewing obliviously on daffodil leaves.

Having escaped from his Newcastle home last Wednesday, John put out a missing eagle appeal that made it all the way to the RTE news.

As the sightings mounted, John’s hopes actually faded, as each one proved to be a red herring. Until today.

Just a little over 1km south of his Newcastle perch, Kalin was found.

Speaking to a rival rag earlier, a stunned John said, “When he seen me today, he jumped straight onto my arm and would not let go. I even had to go through a ditch, and he gripped my arm like he never did before.

Thanking all those who had spread the word, John quipped, “I don’t know who was more delighted – him or me.”
